BREUNINGER, HAMBURG
Flagship Department Store
13,000m2 / 140,000ft2
Interior Architecture (RIBA 1-3)
Breuninger has opened the doors to their latest freestanding flagship located on the banks of Hamburg’s busy trading port within the largest urban development in Europe - Überseequartier - becoming an integral part of Hamburg's culture. A place where new ideas and experiences arrive and the excitement of unpacking newness defines the customer experience.
Taking design cues from the port location, Cardy Papa designed and developed the entire store concept for Breuninger.
Corten steel, with it’s characteristic patina was used large-scale at all entrances, making for a dramatic entrance to the store.
Internally, the raw, industrial envelope is celebrated with columns referencing the plimsoll line; brand dividers and frameworks taking a profile from ship girders and all contrasting with soft curves of sail forms and sculptural wood decking.
With laser-focus, Cardy Papa has designed the store environment around the customer: an open and inviting shopping journey, social connection, excellence of service and seamless online/in-store synergy. This flagship will become a leading fashion & lifestyle authority within Hamburg, differentiated from competitors by its focus on entertainment,
innovation and innovative gastronomy.
